Well, you could try the sledgehammer approach:

Right-click Command Prompt and Run as Administrator. Type the following
commands, pressing Enter after each one:

    net stop winmgmt
    cd %windir%\system32\wbem
    ren repository repository.old
    net start winmgmt

    This will rebuild the Repository.

Make sure the following Services are set to automatic, in Computer

    Base Filtering Engine
    Windows Firewall
    Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    DCOM Server Process Launcher

In Windows Update, make sure KB935807 is installed.

Were you helping the people who needed it in 2006, or those who needed
    it in 2007?

This thread is SO OLD that Google Groups doesn't even have a record of

Perhaps it's time for MS to ban this clueless forum from slurping the MS
    newsgroup feeds ?

Replies to OLD ... no ANCIENT threads with no references are a huge
    waste of bandwidth, IMHO.

The whine about wasted bandwidth worked when 2400 baud modems were the
norm, but it looks kinda foolish these days.

I give up. You're so *right*, Bill. Let's encourage more posts from
techarena that include no references and are at least 3 years old.
That will improve these rapidly decaying NGs !!!
