Security Template versus no template at all

We are in the process of introducing some Windows Server
2003 machines onto our network and are contemplating
applying some of the pre-configured security templates on
the Windows 2003 CD. I have heard that the default
security settings you get when installing Windows 2003
are adequate for most environments(or at least
enviroments where security is not a large concern), so I
am wondering if adding a security template would be
overkill? Any opinions would be appreciated.
