Selecting a location for index files during install

    To select a specific location to store the index, does this have to be done
    during installation or through a group policy setting?

    You can change it after the fact throught the Indexing and Search options
    (or something like that). Not at a Vista machine right now but I think if
    you click Start and type ind you'll see the correct link on the Start menu.
