Separation : Who to separate a child domain from a root domain

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Benedicte Merci, Feb 27, 2007.

  1. We have to separate site.
    Site1= root
    SIte2= child
    We would like to separate them.
    We want to keep the same mail address but we want to be a root domain.
    I plan to do a migration with ADMT and migrate the child After the creation
    of the trust approbation.
    Do you have another solution.
    Thank you.

  2. If this is a parent child relationship that implies that they're part of the
    same forest and therefore already have a trust. So you can perform an
    intra-forest migration with ADMT, which is a little easier re. profiles,
    etc. than an inter-forest migration.

    If the parent-child relationship is only apparent via the DNS namespace, and
    each domain is in a separate forest, then you are correct, you need to
    establish a trust, install ADMT in the root, ensure that the root is running
    in Win2k Native mode, perform the pre-req steps such as granting admin
    permissions, etc. and then perform the migration.

    There's plenty of info. on both in the deployment guide. Download the book
    designing and deploying directory services for plenty of info.

    p.s. English is fine. Much better than my French ;-)
