server activesync calendar from ppc to exchange problem

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Timo Lindfors, Oct 3, 2006.

  1. Hi,

Yet another ppc (windows mobile 5.0)/server activesync/calendar/exchange
    (sbs 2003) problem:

    - the calendar items that are created in Outlook, OWA or OMA dont sync
    from Exchange to the ppc

    - the calendar items created in teh ppc get synced to the Exchange

    - the ppc is "connected" to the Exchange with server activesync through
    gprs and wlan

    - the mails, contacts and tasks sync without any problem

    - while syncing, the ppc sees the number of the needed updates of the
calendar items but does not get them (this can be repeated by swithing
calendar sync off and on, when syncing all items, the counter advances
in hundreds: 0..100..200..300.../all messages, so it really sees the
number of events but can't fetch them)

    - no error messages anywhere

    - mobile devices, IIS virtual sites, ... resetted & created again etc.
according to the other threads here

    - we run symantec anti-virus for both exchange & server, proactive
scanning registry setting is 1, I also changed the anti-virus to include
exchange database folders but it didn't make any difference

    - problems occurs with two ppcs and two different email accounts (all we
are using and have been using)

    - used to work earlier, we are not sure what caused the change

Any help would really be appreciated. I'm still optimistic that I dont
need to reinstall the whole server for this ;-).

    I have a similar problem.

I am using a cingular 8125 Windows Mobile 5.0 phone.
My office uses remote server 2003 for our email/calendar/contact hosting.

When I sync the 8125 - either hooked up to the USB cable or via wifi/gprs -
my emails come through just fine.

But when I try to active sync my calendar via USB - I get nothing. No
    calendar entries whatsoever.

    Have I done something wrong?

  3. Got it working:

    1) I checked and changed the iis virtual sites according to the
    guidelines in another thread:

    Open IIS Manager
Open properties of virtual directory exchange-oma

Select Directory Security tab Select Authentication and access control
    \Edit:
    Authentication Methods
    Enabled Basic authentication
    Enabled Integrated Windows authentication
    Disabled anonymous access
    Secure communications\Edit:
Require secure channel (SSL) should be unchecked

Open properties of virtual directory OMA
Select Directory Security tab Select Authentication and access control
    \Edit:
    Authentication Methods
    Uncheck Enable anonymous access
    Uncheck Integrated Windows authentication
    Check Basic authentication
    Secure communications\Edit:
Require secure channel (SSL) should be unchecked

    Open IIS Manager
Open properties of virtual directory Microsoft -Server-ActiveSync
    Properties
Select Directory Security tab Select Authentication and access control
    \Edit:
    Authentication Methods
    Uncheck Enable anonymous access
    Uncheck Integrated Windows authentication
    Check Basic authentication
    Secure communications\Edit:
Require secure channel (SSL) should be unchecked

    Here iisrestart

    2) Then I was able to http://publicurl/exchange-oma from a PC but got a
clear message stating I'm coming from not-allowed IP => I selected
    exchange-oma->Directory Security->IP address and domain...->Edit and
there instead of my server ip & localhost ip, By default, all computers
will be granted. The change seemed to update all sites.

    Here iisrestart too.

Since the server is in our Intranet, behind WPA or VPN, this is not a
problem and the qtek started to sync also calendar.
