Server Management Console Problem Cannot Add users Wizard Wont Loa

    clicking Start/Server Management then scroll down to users, and then click
    add new users, the wizard does not start, it refreshes the users page as if
    its loading something but then thats about the limit of its effort. there
    appears to be no errors in the application log, would they be somewhere else?
    Or is there a way of restarting the management console without restarting
    the Server??

    Thankyou but i have found the solution :), what was happening is the button
    is linked to addusr.exe, and with some serious google bashing I found that
    the log file for it is storred C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small
    Business Server\Support\add_user_wizard.log (didnt know those logfiles were
    there you learn something new and all that) which gave me the problem
    "SCW and AUW-chained can't be run at the same time."

    "SCW = Set up Computer Wizard
    AUW = Add User Wizard

    Add Users and Computers... You must complete this task to configure user
    accounts and client computer settings. Clicking this task starts the Add
    User Wizard. After you provide user account information, the Set Up Computer
    Wizard allows you to configure a client computer for new users "

    turns out that SCW was running and blocking the running of addusr.exe so
    killed the process and hey presto!

    having been a user of windows server 2003 for a week and a half, this is my
    first big problem so I will allow my self to feel smug for a few moments
    before I break something else. :)

    Not only did I not know there were such log files, but reading those showed
    that I had similar issues. Sure enough, I checked processes, SCW was running
    so I closed that...

    Suddenly, my wizards work! You have no idea how long we've been without
    Assigned Applications (and the more important settings that get pushed onto
    the client computer), and now they work! (it's been about 6 months...
    thankfully, users don't work at different computers all that often, but when
    they do, I've had to manually set up their settings).

  5. This commonly happens when the SBS management console is open in another
    session. There are 3 possible sessions, 0,1, and 2. If someone doesn't log
    off a session, it remains open indefinitely. If a particular wizard is open
    in one session, it will likely fail if attempted in another.

    Best practice is to a) log off the server; b) check terminal services
    manager for open sessions and close them; c) use the same session all the
    time (can be accomplished with the /console switch in most OS's).

    Note that an increasing number of multiple session incidents are due to
    Vista adoption, as Vista SP1 no longer recognizes the /console switch, *and
    doesn't tell you*. It happily ignores it and uses session 1 or 2.

    The *new* switch for Vista SP1 is /admin.
