Server Standard in a SMS Domain

Discussion in 'Active Directory' started by Anthony Arduini, Aug 5, 2013.

  1. Greetings everyone,

A client of mine is looking to upgrade/replace their server. The are using Windows Server 2003 Small Business as their domain controller and they are considering adding a Windows Server 2008 Standard as another domain controller.

Is this possible without causing any issues. If they decide to retire the SBS would I be able to transfer the fsmo roles over to the server standard?

If that doesn't work out, would it be possible to add a second Small Business domain controller, for example, 2003 SBS and, 2011 SBS Essentials?

I thank you in advance for your input.
