Shuffle Feature in WMP 11

I pulled a small list of MP3 files into a Now Playing playlist in WMP 11 and
turned on the Shuffle feature by clicking the appropriate button. I verified
that the option was turned on. But when I went to play the files, they
wouldn't play in a randomized order -- they played right in the order I
arranged them. I don't want to have to arrange the order of songs myself
every time I use WMP. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

(On another note, another media program I use, Winamp, is doing the same
thing. I turn on shuffle in that program and it plays the songs in order as
well. Even telling it to randomize the list didn't change the order at all.
I suspect that it's somehow something system-wide, for those two programs are
    unrelated in operation.)
