Small Business Server to stand alone server

Discussion in 'Windows Small Business Server' started by Marc Rossenbach, Jul 19, 2004.

  1. Hello,

I have a customer that has outgrown their small business
server. We are going to move them up to 2003 Server.
What I want to know is if I can demote the 2000 Small
Business server and make it into a stand alone server?

If it is possible do I just use dcpromo to do this?

    Thanks very much

  2. can't be done. nor can you just use the win2k3 portion of the SBS sotware,
it is a license violation and would still have the 75 user limitation.

Add another server as a DC, transferr data
Take down the SBS machine, have new DC seize the FSMO and Global Cat roles

  3. Another option (even if it is only licensewise) would be to get the
Migration/Transition pack and then you will have the licenses + you can do
what you want (since you end up with the plain-vanilla licenses).
