Lately, I have been unable to send any email from my ASUS netbook

what port I use. I have tried 25,26,80,465(SSL), 587, and a couple of

The connection to the server has failed.

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E
    Protocol: SMTP

Can anyone help me fix this?

Not at that web page, but in a phone conversation with Dakotacom, net,
they told me my setup was correct. They tried to tell me it was due to
Avast, even though I uninstalled Avast and replaced it with MSE.
Furthermore, I have been using this netbook and WLM software for several
    years without this 10060 problem.

AV clients that scan email ingoing/outgoing can corrupt an email account as well as a user shutting down WLM while it is still
indexing or aborting a send/receive process (manual or the automatic poll). Auto poll occurs approx. once an hour.

Test the same account in a different Windows user profile
    or
Rename the account and create a new identical account
    or
Backup all messages, then and only then remove the account, recreate account anew and test.

Note: Removing a POP3 account in WLM will remove the account, delete all messages for that account in WLM, and remove the account
from the hard drive and delete all messages from the hard drive.
    - i.e. if removing the account, as noted 'Backup all messages' prior to removing the account

Thank you, Winston. I have downloaded Thunderbird, and am in the
process of setting up my IDs and moving everything over to Thunderbird.
When I finish that, I will try what you suggested, probably option 2.
