    Hi all,

Our software vendor is now telling us that if we dont purchase Software
Assurance that we will not have an upgrade option on future versions of
Windows Servers. The only option would be full retail purchase price when
the new server comes out. Is this true?? If so, it is ridiculuous. MS is
squeezing their customers if they do this!!

    Someone please confirm.

    TIA!

  2. HI,

Unlike desktop operating systems the Windows Server products are not
usually offered as an upgrade version vs. a full version in terms of
    cost to buy.
SA allows you to use the next version at no additional cost. Think of
it kind of like a subscription to Windows Server or whatever product
you take out SA on that always allows you to use the latest released
    version etc.

    There is more information at
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/sa/default.mspx

That is insane. MS always provided an upgrade license from a previous
    version of Windows...
