    I had also troubles updating.
    Tried another ISP and problem solved.

    Thanks much! Setting TLS 1.0 completely cured the problem -- the error message about "check your computer's date" was bogus.

    I also stumbled in this solution: enabling TLS 1.0 in Internet Explorer,
    besides SSL 2.0 and 3.0

    This solved the problem and let me run windows update.

    I got it when I noticed that I could not connect to any ssl-enabled site
    (my bank, for instance). It is possible that TLS 1.0 got deselected when
    I applied a security template from CIS.
