Over the past two weeks I have noticed that some of my
documents and briefcase files are blue font and some are
black font. I have not changed any fonts. Any reason
for this and how I may change them back to black font.

  2. Hi

A blue font usually indicates compressed files...

To show all files in black if you really want to: Tools, Folder Options,
View, uncheck "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color"

Thank you for your help, that solved the problem by unchecking to box for compressed files in tools, options, view folder.

Go to Control Panel, Sounds & Audio Devices, check "Place volume icon in the
    taskbar". That should do it.
