I have read thru other threads. I just done a clean install on SBS2003 then
updated sbs as per recommended update order. I get to the 5th file SBS SP1
and it continues in endless loop. I am hesitant to shut it down as it may
    corrupt the install.

Does someone have a fix for this and a set of procedures to resolve.

    Many thanks for any help

  2. Hi Tassie,

    Thanks for posting here!

For your description, I understand that the issue is: you can not apply SBS
SP1 successfully. If I am off base, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, the issue may caused by some third-party software
which prevents the SBS SP1 from installing successfully.

Please follow my suggestion to try to troubleshooting the issue:

    I. Please try to use the MSCONFIG tool to check if there are any
    third-party service:

    1. Log on to Windows as an administrator user.
    2. Click Start, Run, type "msconfig" without the quotes in the Open box and
    click OK.
    3. Click on the Services tab and then click to check the "Hide All
    Microsoft Services" box.
    4. Clear all the check boxes left.
    5. Click on the Startup tab and clear all the check boxes.
    6. Click OK.

II. Double check the services console (run "services.msc" (no quotation
marks) and stopped all third party services.

III. Kill the process for SP1 from task manager, specially if you have
installed Antivirus software such as Symantec, please double check you have
killed these processes (in some cases found that there are two Symantec
process running in background that preventing SBS SP1 installing ).

IV. Please try to restart the server and reinstall SBS SP1 again, how about
    the result?
*Note: After applied all the SP1, please rerun CEICW to configure network
connection to make all thing go well.

If the issue persists, please kindly help me collect some information to
    further troubleshooting the issue:

    1. What is the meaning of "it continues in endless loop"? Can you describe
the symptom more detail? Do you get any error message? Please give me a
screen shot of the error message.

    2. Please help me collect some logs for further analyze:

    a) C:\Windows\KB885918.log
    b) C:\Windows\ setupapi.log
    b) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
    c) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server
    d) C:\Program Files\Microsoft Integration\Windows Small Business Server

Please add all files to a zip file and send to

I appreciate you time and efforts to the issue. I am currently standing by
for you test result. I am always happy to be of further assistance.

    Have a nice day!

    Best Regards,
