I downloaded SP2 some time ago and it did not properly install. I continued
to use my laptop, although it became quite slow and occasionally warned me to
remove SP2. Eventually, I could no longer surf the web. I could connect via
DSL but could not open any pages in Explorer, no matter what. I uninstalled
SP2, thinking that would resolve my problem. Wrong!

I now get a message when I reboot that says the computer can't find the
driver for some hardware called Compal E-Power. I have no idea what this
might be. The computer then looks for file hkdrv.sys on (unknown) drive. It
    thinks this file should be at 1\temp\{6f6ff691_9fa-46d3-b1b0-3f971e1b65da}
No matter what I try, I can't find this mystery driver. And I still cannot
    surf the web.

Any clues? Suggestions? I am using a Toshiba SatelliteA75-S206 which came
pre-loaded with XP Home Edition. Aagh!

I had a similar problem on an XP Pro machine when I installed SP2.
I ended up installing (or trying to) and un-installing it several times
before I got it to work.

After chasing several false leads (virus, spyware, etc) it turned out to be
due to a firewall I had that was marketed by CA and was a version of the
    Zone Labs personal firewall.

Once I removed all traces of this firewall (including editing the registry)
SP2 installed properly, and my network worked again.

btw, when my browser was broke, it was actually a bigger network problem and
I could not even ping anything, but I could ping and map to the sick machine
    from others local machines.

not sure if this will help but ya never know
