    Here is what has happened.

    1. Downloaded & ran WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe on 2 systems - everything
    OK.
    2. Ran same (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe) on IBM Thinkpad T41 running PRO.
    3. Install hung @ 50% complete (for over 12 hours).
    4. Rebooted. BSOD on reboot - c0000135
    5. Rebooted into recovery console & removed SP 2 with steps from KB 875355.
    6. Tried SP2 install again - hung as per step 3 above.
    7. Rebooted, BSOD on reboot c0000135.
    8. Rebooted into recovery console & tried to remove SP 2 with steps from KB
    875355. Uninistal HUNG.
    9. Killed uninstall. Uninstalled Hotfix 824141.
    10. Retried SP2 installation. Hung.
    11. Retried SP2 uninstallation. Hung.

    Final state:
    - SP2 installation won't complete.
    - SP2 uninstallation won't complete.
    - Control Panel shows SP2 *is* installed.
    - Winver shows Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158 : Service
    Pack 2)
    - Firewall & wireless updates *are* present.
    - SP2 Installation ever successfully completed.
    - Security checks required for my RAS dialup indicate that SP2 is not present.

How can I either completely remove SP2 or get a full reinstallation?

    Thanks.

Where ever the .exe extracted itself too....go to the
dark place (command window) go the the update folder
    within and type update.exe /uninstall
