I hit the send button by accident so I'm replying to my own post.
Installed Windows server 2008 std server that came with sbs 2008 premium.
    I joined the sbs2008 domain.
Installed Sql Server 2008 and it says:

Rule "Operating system supported for edition" failed.
This SQL Server edition is not supported on this operating system. See SQL
    Server
Books Online for information about supported operating systems for SQL Small
    Business Server edition.

Does anyone know how to fix that. Please adivse and thanks.

  4. Is the second server a domain controller? Are you logged into the domain or
    into the local computer?

  5. Is the sBS 2003 still in the domain?

I've seen someone say that if the 2k3 box is still in AD, the SQL won't
    install.

No, the second server isn't a domain controller.
Actually I don't if it is or not.
    How can I tell?
We are in a workgroup environment and the second
server Windows Server 2008 std logs into the
SBS2008 server. All I have going on is the two servers
    on a network by themselves.
    Thanks for your help.

I joined the windows 2008 server std to SBS 2008 in accordance with this
    info:

Adding a Server Running Windows Server 2008 to a Windows Small Business
Server 2003 Network (Which applies to: Windows SBS 2008.)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708131(WS.10).aspx

But Sql server std will still not install on Windows Server 2008 std.

Ok. I'll try that. I was logging in a user who was a administrator.

    That did it. It works!!!!!!
I was logging in as the adminstrator with the password on server 2008 std
    and it didn't work.
I logged in with my account name (not administrator) from SBS2008 and it's
    fine.
jng, thank you very very much!!!
Why doesn't Microsoft tell people about that or tell people that sql08 won't
install at the first of the installation?
    Oh well.
Thanks for the help. again jng.
