I have set this up on 3 other machines and haven't run
    into this problem before.
Using the How to Install guide on CD # 5 I install sql,
then sql sp3a. Next I upgrade the instance of MSDE used
for sharepoint services. on the installation section I
chose upgrade, remove, or add components to an existing
instance of SQL server. Next I install the SP3a to the
sharepoint instance of SQL Server. Next I register the
sharepoint instance of SQL server. Now my SQL Server
group shows (local) and servername\sharepoint, both have
green arrows. When I go into Sharepoint central
administration, and under Component Configuration I click
configure full-text search. The message on the top right
corner is, "The database this server is using does not
support search". I have stopped and started all sql
services, except one I get an error message when I try to
    start sqlserverADHelper.
Any suggestions on something that I'm missing? should I
    uninstall reinstall sql server?

  2. Hi Norm,

For some reason, the search component of SQL isn't always selected
(therefore installed) when doing the SQL install. If you run it again, and
ensure Search is selected, you should be OK. As I recall, you have to
    re-apply the SQL sp afterwards.
