SQL2008 on SBS2003

  1. Hello All,

    i am testing in virtual machines the installation of SQL 2008 to SBS2003.
    The Installation begin, but few times later I get an Error that the SQL
    Browser Service cannot start.

    Now I am searching for any Ideas to solve it but it is difficult - maybe the
    msde instances could the problem with the communication on port 1433/1434.

    Who has some tipps for me?

    If you're installing SQL 2008 as a non-default instance, it has to use
    different port numbers than an existing default instance. If you're only
    installing SQL 2008 as a default instance, you don't need the SQL Browser
    Service. Even with a non-default instance, you can assign a fixed port to
    SQL 2008 and omit the Browser Service. The browser service's function is
    returning a catalog of existing sql server instances on the machine. If you
    don't need to browse for instances, you don't need the browser service.
    Applications can specify specific instances in the connection properties by
    specifying the tcp port.
