Standby and Hibernate with Terminal Services

Discussion in 'Server Setup' started by Paul B T Hodges, Aug 27, 2003.

  1. Hi All,

As far as I understand, if you install terminal services on windows 2000
server, because of High Availability issues Windows disables the Hibernate
and Standby Power management options which in a live environment is sound
    practice.

However if you've only installed Terminal Services in adminstrative mode for
remote access in a test environment it would be nice to get these options
back My electric bill is starting to mount since building a lab at home. Is
there a policy or registry setting that can be used to re-enable these
    options ?

This isn't an issue with W2K3 as like XP remote management functionality is
built in so you don't need to install terminal services. Perhaps even, W2K3
might issue some sort of warning if you do try to enable standby or
    hibernate !

    Best Regards

    Paul
