Strange problem with Intervideo WinDVD 8

I've contacted Intervideo but they don't seem interested in the problem I
have, so thought I'd explain it here (hopefully someone can help or explain
    what's going on!)

I installed the 14-day trial version of WinDVD 8 Platinum (supposedly Vista
    compatible)
After the trial period expired, I purchased a key.
When I entered the key I get a message that the program has been activated
    successfully.
Restarting the program gives me the message that trial has expired, so can't
    be used.

Here's the fun part: If I run WinDVD using the 'hidden' (normally disabled)
Administrator account, I don't get the expiry message and the program works
correctly (note this was activated using my regular account without using
    elevated privileges)

Back to my desktop, I get the trial expired message. Even if I use Run As
Administrator. Same problem if I re-activate using the full Admin account

Something is preventing the activation from working on anything but the
built-in Admin account (which for obvious reasons can't be used for
    day-to-day use of the PC)

Any ideas what the hell's going on here?
