sync appointments only in these categories

    When I try to use the "sync appointments only in these categories", all
    appointments seem to sync (both directions) without regard to category. What
    am I missing?

    With ActiveSync and Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition the way that category
    sync works is that any contact in a category is synchronized to the device.
    However any contact in any category is always synchronized to the desktop
    AND it is removed from the device if it is NOT in the categories you
    selected to sync.

    Hi,

    If you are experiencing an issue where although you have specified the
    category within ActiveSync all appointments are getting synchronized, then
    try the following:

    1. Connect and synchronize the device and set the Category that you wish to
    synchronize.
    2. Open Outlook and goto Calendar.
    3. Right-click the Calendar folder and create a new folder of Calendar
    Type.
    4. Click View -> Arrange by -> Current View -> By Category (This will list
    all your appointments category wise)
    5. Select All (Press Ctrl + A) and drag the selected items into your new
    folder. This will cause ActiveSync to clear the entries on your
    device.
    6. Now repeat #5 and move back all the appointments from the new folder
    to the original one.

    This time, it should have synchronized only the ones under the category you
    specified.

    This worked going from the PC to the PDA, but not the reverse. When I create
    a "personal" appointment on the PC at work, it doesn't sync onto the PDA.
    If, however, I create a new "personal" appointment on the PDA, it DOES sync
    to the PC, which is still set to sync only "Business" items.

    What I want to happen is for all appointments in all categories to sync at
    home. At work, however, I only want items marked "Business" to sync (I don't
    want my personal appointments on the calendar at work)

    Is this possible? I would expect that the setting should work in both
    directions. . .

    Yes, thats the way it is designed to perform. ActiveSync will synchronize
    the appointments but will only keep the "Business" items on your device.
    The rest will be available on your computer.
    If you synchronize with two computers, you will need to have the same
    settings on both computers to have the same set of appointments on all three
    devices. Chris has already explained how category sync works in ActiveSync
    in the earlier post and therefore its not possible to have all contacts sync
    on one computer and have only the business category sync on the other.
