The mail notification icon has disappeared....

Since installing IE7 the envelope that usually appears in the notification
area has vanished - even though I have the options set for it to do so. I've
tried the old reset it and switch off-switch on, but it's still not working.
Anyone got any idea how to fix?

In Kera2811 had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:
Hmm... Wow. For Outlook you mean? I hadn't noticed for OE at this point but
yeah. No fix - but I just tried that (sent myself a test message and waited)
and it downloaded, synced, and sure enough - no mail icon. I can see why a
bug that small might get through a small beta test but I'm currently using a
fairly stock system as I'm involved in some other testing right now so I
rolled out a generic image earlier today onto my work system.

Freakish but yes, I can confirm that the message notification icon in the
notification area of the system tray doesn't work any longer. I can't say
that I know, for certain, that it was caused by the installation of IE7 but,
then again, I haven't done much else lately. I also can't say that I'd
noticed it until now and I only saw it because I wanted to test what you'd
    said.
