    hello,
i have a factory build of vista ultimate that shows an error right out of
    the box. it reads:

The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it
has no enabled devices associated with it.

    Event ID: 7000

the laptop does not have a parallel port. is there a windows update fix for
    this?

You found that error in the event logs, right? If so, just disregard
it. It's not causing your system any problems.

appreciate the response, but i have no way of telling whether it is causing
any problems. i am guesssing that if there is an error in the event viewer,
there is a problem somewhere in the system. looking for a fix for this from
microsoft if it is a problem with vista.

It is not a problem. It is an annoyance. Get over it.

BTW... I installed Vista on this machine a few months ago and I saw
that error too... but I have a parallel port but it's not being used.

I went into the BIOS and disabled the port. The ANNOYANCE went away.

So why didn't you tell the OP about it?

Small "problem" with admitting when you might have been
overly brusque with your reply, perhaps?
