    hey all,

I am a HUGE fan of wmp and it has been my player of choice for years and
years now, however, i have been consistently disspointed with the shuffle
songs feature of the player - i mean its jus bad.

The word shuffle to me means chosing songs in a very random order, and i
regularly play up to a 1000 songs on one playlist, and the way the shuffle
feature works is terrible, i mean you set it to shuffle and it must
concentrate on about 100 of the 1000 songs, i have sometimes had it on for
hours on end and it will just kep switching few the same songs - to me that
sucks for someone who wants to listen to a random variety of music i have
    available in my playlist.

The player is fantastic, i just think in future it should really be
re-thinked, mabye to play each song only once until the playlist has been
    played fully through?

Whats the general reaction to my comments and does anyone know of anything i
can do to improve this feature?

    Cheers for your time all!

I've seen the exact same thing and evidently it's a known issue for M'soft.
In WMP 9, I found that from time to time, the 'Shuffle' would loop back and
begin some sequence of songs I'd already heard before, in the exact same
order. In WMP 10, I'm lucky if I get more than 7 or 8 songs before it starts
repeating (and I've got around 1500 cd's in there, so it's not for lack of

One thing that I've found that you can do in WMP is to play non-shuffled,
but to have WMP randomize the list, then just play that randomized list in
order, top to bottom. It's not ideal but it's a workaround for now.

Hopefully they'll fix this, although I had hopes that they would address it
in WMP 10 and it didn't happen. A lot of the posts, including fairly recent
ones, that I see from M'soft say that these are known issues for the WMP
beta. Well, considering all the fanfair attached to the rollout of WMP 10, I
certainly missed the part that said this was still a beta product. Even
though I love a lot of the new functionality, in general I'm finding that v10
is slower and is missing some features of v9 that I really liked. Here's
hoping we get a dot release that addresses some of the bigger issues.

I have wondered if this is because of the STAR ratings? Maybe the player
plays 5 Stars more often then 2 Stars?
