Tv tuner not found after MCE OS reinstall

    Hi,

Yesterday, I reinstalled Media Center 2005 in a desparate effort to fix some
fatal system errors that have been
occurring, since I got this Media Center PC in mid January. Now Media Center
    claims "No TV Tuner Found".

I had similar problems with the Asus TV Tuner which was preinstalled and
returned it as faulty. Had a similar
problem (no tuner) with theHauppauge 150, but I used the cleanup utility and
reinstalled in safe mode and it worked
    just fine to the reinstall.

I tried the below fix from MS:
Note The Mscoree.dll file is installed in the following folder:
    C:\Windows\System32

    RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
1, and then reinstall Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition
    2005:<

I tried this to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Hauppauge
driver a dozen times. Still Media Center insists either I don't have a TV
    Tuner or the drivers.

Hauppauge tells me to either reinstal the OS again or contact Microsoft,
    because Media Center is buggy.

Please Help. I don't know what to do next.

If you did not also reinstall an MCE compatible decoder than you Hauppauge
card wiill not work. You can try the free 30 day trial of the NVIDIA
Decoder from the NVIDIA Website and if it works is only costs $20.

After I read your post JW, I installed XP Video Decoder Checkup Utility and
    it shows
Nvidia decoder version 4020.277.0.0. I also installed InterVideo, because it
    showed up on
    checkup utility.

Since my original post, I also installed installed ReplayTV for PC which is
    designed for
Haupauge cards. Replay went, "Oops! No TV Tuner Installed", so it's not an
    MCE bug.

Even tried 2 more drivers Hauppage recommended, but still no tuner any
    where, but DV.

At this point I am seriously thinking about another reinstall. Three
installs in month and 2 TV Tuner
cards on a brand new computer makes me ready to knock my head against the
    nearest wall.

Do you have Nero installed? It appease to cause unerparable havoc to
decoders, regretfully, I don't know if a doing a repair on the OS or a new
OS install is required to fix the Nero problem.
If you have Nero I suggest you start a new thread and state in the subject
the Nero release and version you are uisng?

Glad your system is stable now Bad Penny. I didn't uninstall net 1.1 before
    I reinstalled
net 1.1 and rollup. I'lI uninstall net 1 and 2 as you did and try again.

Devise Manager alway claims the devise is working properly. Yeah Right!

I can't imagine it's not installed right, because it was working right
    before I reinstalled
Media Center. It's in PCI slot 5. I'd have to switch something because all
    the slots are filled.

Even WinTV does show TV, so that's 3 programs counting MCE and Replay.

I'm seriously thinking of reinstalling MCE once again or at least using a
ghost image from my original install.
I hate to, because I haven't been getting error messages in Event viewer
    after this install.

    Keep your fingers crossed.

Strange thing is JW. I had Nero installed, before I reformatted and was
having no problem with the TV tuner.
Now, I'm running with the bare, bare minimum to see if the fatal system
    error messages would reappear.
No fatal error message, but no TV Tuner either.

    Go figure!

Did you reinstall the NVIDIA Decoder also?

No I didn't JW! XP checkup utility shows I have NVIDIA decoder version
    420.277.0.0.

To be perfectly honest. I don't know how to reinstall the decoder. I can't
    identify the exe.
What is the name of the install file?

If you came up with the fix, your my hero!!!

By bare minimum, I mean't just enough to get the bangs out of DV. No
    printer. No extra programs.
Just for the heck of it I'd like to reinstall the decoder. Do you know the
    file name and extension?

Go to the NVIDIA Website and download a new copy. however I don't believe
that will help since doing that apparently does not replace the .dll that
    Nero corrupted.

    Thanks JW

This install hasn't had Nero on it. The install I wiped out did, but the
tuner worked fine on that install.
Net 2 or rollup corrupted mscoree.dll on this install. I'm sorely tempted to
just go a download a copy of the version it wants
and stick it windows system 32. I'm going to uninstall then reinstall net 1
and 2 and the rollup before I try that.

I've already tried reinstalling net 1.1 and the rollup to no avail.
