We had a 2000 domain on one subnet with AD and DNS on the DC.
We just added a second domain using 2003 on another subnet again with AD and
    DNS on the DC.
The two domains can not browse each other. They can ping each other across
the router via IP, but they can not find each other by pinging by name.

I need both domains to be browsable. Any suggestions on how to make these
    two domains more friendly?
The trust on the 2000 domain has not be activated. I was trying to avoid
that but would that help in the DNS updates.
    Both DNS servers or dynamic.

    Thanks all,

    Hi

    Inline
-Browser service has nothing to do with DNS, for that you'll need to setup
    Wins.
-To ping by NetBIOS name = \\servername you'll use broadcasting, because
routers generally don't allow it, you need Wins, and it works like a charm.
-To ping by FQDN = \\servername.domain.local you need to use DNS, in this
scenario you can use Secondary Zones, Forwarding, Conditional Forwarding
(Only in Windows 2003) and Stub Zones (Only in Windows 2003).
