Unable to backup WMA files using Windows Backup

I have spent countless hours transferring my CDs to my PC, with the idea that
I can play all my music from Windows Media Player, and not bother with the
clutter of the CDs themselves. I tried to backup my My Music folder to my
external hard drive using the Windows Backup utility, though, and none of the
WMA files were copied. If I go into the backup utility, I can't actually
select the WMA files for backup (the select choice is greyed out). I just
want to make sure that my files are safe in case something happens to my PC's
hard drive. In the event of a problem, I don't want to have to re-rip all of
my CDs. I am running Windows XP SP2.

No error ... it just doesn't allow me to back the files up, i.e. there are no
WMA files in the backup file itself, and if I try to specifically select
audio files for backup, I can't.
