I first received update message again and again. To deal
with this problem I followed instructions on FAQ page.
After doing that I receive a SYTEM ADMINISTRATOR only
message with instructions for WIN 2000 or XP. Once again I
went to FAQ page and followed instructions which had me in
the registry. I clicked through but the path died after
plocies. I believe I was to find Explorer but it wasn't
    there . Any ideas?

    Gary,

If you have a Windows logon prompt at startup and hit Cancel or OK
without entering a username or password, try this :

How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me Logon Prompt at
    Startup
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=152104

IF not, go here and follow the steps for Win 98 :
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=319585

**Delete the contents of the C:\WUTemp if present**

IMPORTANT : Your antivirus program MUST be temporarily disabled prior to
the download and installation of the Windows Update ActiveX software
controls or any Windows Updates. Failure to do so will result in the
    iuctl.cab file being corrupted/damaged and/or show as a 0 KB file .
Failure to do so in regards to Windows Updates will result in
    damaged/corrupted downloads and damaged/corrupted/incomplete
installations. Spyblocking software (pop-up stoppers included) and
incorrectly configured firewalls may prevent access to the Windows
Update site or the attempt to download and install updates/patches, also.
