How do I set up an unmanaged tape backup with Windows 2003 Server
(ntbackup) using the GUI? I cannot get around the requirement for the
tape pool even adding /p and /um in the command line behind the GUI.

  2. Have a look at this site it uses a backup script using RSM, NTbackup and can
    even email you.
    Regards Wendel.

Can't you just specify the pool? - This backs up regardless of tape
    which is in the drive

    ntbackup backup e:\ /m normal /j "backup" /p "4mm DDS" /um

  4. Ian,
The /UM switch is no longer implemented in window 2003.

    Wendel,

The /um feature of ntbackup is not documented with windows 2003, as far
as i'm aware it is still a working feature of ntbackup though.

By gosh, I think it worked. Here is the string I used:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Documents and
    Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
    NT\NTBackup\data\Daily-um.bks" /v:no /r:no /rs:no /hc:eek:n /m normal /j
    "Daily-um" /l:s /p "4mm DDS" /um

    Do we match?

    Thanks!
