Let's see if I can explain what is going on here with Live Mail's newsgroup
    reader.

When I select a newsgroup the Message List shows all unread messages in the
group. (I have view set to 'Hide Read
Messages.) The top message is high lighted automatically. If I choose not
to read it at that point and move on to
another newsgroup in that account, the message in the first group
apparently gets marked as read even though I did
not read it. I say apparently because if I go back to the first group, the
messages in question does not appear as
'unread.' If I change the view to 'show all messages' the messages appears.
This is true for all news accounts I
    have set up.

I have the feeling I have set up something wrong. Will someone please help
    me get around this issue?

    Thank you.

Problem Solved. I found I had Tools/Options/Read/Automatically download
messages when viewing in the Preview Pane checked. Unchecked it and now all
    is well on that score.

  3. You don't want newsgroup messages to be downloaded automatically?
Seems like a better solution would be to uncheck "Mark message read
    after displaying for X seconds".

On the Menu bar, which is hidden by default.
To see it momentarily, press the Alt key.
To keep it displayed, press Alt-M, then select Show Menu Bar
