I need some help solve an installationproblem for ie7. The installation is
interrupted and the log file indicates a problem in my registry. The first
line that indicates the problem in the log file reads "2.203: IECUSTOM:
    Unwriteable key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet
    Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_RESTRICT_FILEDOWNLOAD".
I have full access to HKLM so that is not a problem. However when I lokk up
this key in the registry I cannot even look at it because when clicking on it
there is an error popup saying "cannot open FEATURE_RESTRICT_FILEDOWNLOAD:
Error while opening key". This error exists on several (but not all) keys in
the same folder. Is my registry corrupt beyond fixing or can I solve this in
    any way? Thanks.
    /Magnus

  2. Restart in Safe Mode and try installing there. If that doesn't work see IE7
    won't install: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx

I found the problem ... the administrator did not have ownership of those
keys. After claiming ownership (by right clicking on permissions in the
registry editor) of the key in question the installation was successful.

    Thanks.
