update fails...do not pass logo test...then cancels...

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by Sur Magma Fleuve, Jun 27, 2004.

  1. there are approximately 4-15 new critical updates that will not install...
    attempts = 5
    failures = 5
    identical failures = 5
    the updates are downloaded and then installation begins...
    i am forced to click on "windows xp logo" windows to continue installation...
    approximately 3 xp logo windows do come up during installation.
    these look a little different than xp logo pop-ups i've seen before during hardware installations...
    the all are the same and claim the software being installed has not XP Logo certified and after clicking on the 3rd or so identical
    window the installation ends with a message...
    the software was not installed

    thanx for any help with this matter
    and installations have never been a problem just a day or two before the most recent...

  3. I followed the directions on the microsoft support site
    you provided...
    and all was sucessful...
    thank you very much...

    i am replying because of an issue that came up.
    the directions had me start the cryptographic service.
    well i did this...but...
    the service had been altered i would say...
    it was using its own logon & password...
    the logon was l&cal service...password unknown...
    i'll repeat that to verify the ampersand...
    l&cal service...
    i changed it to user local machine...
    i wanted to make sure this wasn't a sign that my computer
    had been compromised from an outside source...
    and if it has...if there is anything i should or could
    do...
    i operate behind an smc router w/ built in firewall...
    general work of mouth states that xp firewall can be
    compromised...i dont use it...
