Update for Windows XP (KB913670)

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by KB 8913670 Fails to install, Jun 29, 2006.

  1. This update keeps trying to install unsuccesfully... I understand that it is
trying to uninstall Update KB 912475 so I went to install/uninstall programs
and tried to uninstall that update manually... when doing so I was informed
that it was not possible and that it may have already been uninstalled and
asked if I would like the reference taken out of install/uninstall programs,
    which I did.
I have rebooted and run the install again for KB 8913670 and again it fails
to install and will not go away. Keeps coming up that I need to install this
update. I don't want this update, don't need this update and would like to
get rid of the notification to install. It is driving me nuts. How do you
tell automatic update to quit trying to install???

Am having the same problem. Tried mostly the same solutions - also with no
success. Posted request to MS and got response, but system will not allow me
to contact - basically says no free support available in link provided.
Also, the update icon continues to appear on my task bar.

You should look through the message headers first. The fix was already posted.

    Repeated for you:

Download the "$NtUninstallKB912475$.zip" below and extract the folder to C:\Windows
    http://www.digitalforrest.com/images/killer7/myfiles/$NtUninstallKB912475$.zip
Now download the KB913670 update and it will install correctly this time.

If by some chance that fails, run regedit and delete any references to KB912475
Download the original KB912475 update and install it again.
    <http://au.download.windowsupdate.co...3-x86-ENU_0b878456f894ef07b7ff5db899d851d.exe>

Now run the KB913670 update again.

What a pain in the ass....

Did you clear the registry FIRST so the old KB912475 update can be installed again?
That update will recreate the $NtUninstallKB912475$ folder that KB913670 looks for.

    CokeWiskey,

Run regedit (START > RUN type regedit)
    Find KB912475 (EDIT > FIND type KB912475)
    Delete (EDIT > DELETE)
Repeat for all references to KB912475
Download the original KB912475 update and install it again
    http://au.download.windowsupdate.co...3-x86-ENU_0b878456f894ef07b7ff5db899d851d.exe

Run the KB913670 update (START > All Programs > MicroSoft Update).

This should Install KB913670 to remove KB912475. If not, then write an
    e-mail to Bill.

    What a bloody joke!
