    Hi,
had NT4 server with DNS, primary and secondary zones running. have installed
a new 2003 server, and moved all zones to new server. now primary zones work
ok, secondary does not transfer from other primary servers (windows 2000) to
my one. tried nslookup using other server - found it does not work. if i
replace new server with old, same IP, same net card everything works there.
Tried tio switch off internal firewall on 2003 - no effect. Anybody have an
    idea what can it be?

    Thanks
    Alex

Was the old NT4 a domain controller?
Also is the new 2003 a domain controller (AD). If yes
what domain name you have given?

  3. On the DNS servers, bring up the properties for the zones and look at
the Zone Transfers tab. 2000 and 2003 handle zone transfers differently-
in 2000, a secondary will not allow zone transfers by default; in 2003,
a primary won't allow transfers to servers not listed on the name
servers tab by default, and a secondary won't allow zone transfers at
    all by default.

    Hi Sharad,
i gave domain44.net. Should it be a real name?

Since the secondary zone on Win 2003 is to be transfered from win 2000
primary.. as such it is not
necessary to have the secondary zone transfered from
    the old NT.
Did you try, deleting the secondary zone on win 2003 (which you had
transfered from NT) and then add new secondary zone and set to transfer from
    win 2000 primary?

On the win 2003 network adapter, TCP/IP settings,
is the primary DNS server, same as the win 2003 server itself, or is it
still pointing to the old NT box IP?
Also post the results of ipconfig /all on win 2003 server.

    Well !!
    1. Under Ethernet adapter, you have DNS servers 127.0.0.1
which is a loop back IP!

    2. Default Gateway 193.232.194.59
Is this your WIN 2000 IP address?

How did you create the DC on win 2003 New domain in new forest?
New domain in existing (existing win 2000 ) forest?

If win 2003 domain is from win 2000 DNS (existing forest) then
on win 2003 DNS change the Primary DNS server IP to that of win 2000 server
    IP.

If it is new domain in new forest, change it to 193.232.194.209 (the win
    2003 server IP
itself) and default gateway to the same IP.

    Also enable netbios.

Try as above and then report.

    no,
    no zone transfer.

one more thing - if i try to use nslookup using other server - does not
work. so it looks like win2003 blocks other dns connections

but if i switch 2003 server off and connect nt4 instead - everything works,
    nslookup also. mystery???
