Several clients are getting the following Error: Download failed 0x80244019
when trying to download files from WSUS server.
note: I had to change drive letters (fm c:\wsus to e:\wsus...not enough room
to perform the upgrade to SP1)
When looking at the WindowsUpdate.log I see the file it's looking for on the
WSUS server @ http://wsus_server/content/foldername/filename...problem is the
file is located in the old source on c:\wsus\wsuscontent\foldername\filename
    not on the new e:\wsus\wsuscontent\foldername\filename.

I've tried deleting the computer acct from WSUS and doing a clean client
    install by performing the following:

    At a command prompt run regsvr32 /u wuaueng.dll
    delete the folder c:\windows\softwaredistibution
    delete c:\windows\windowsupdate.log
    At a command prompt run regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
At a command prompt run net start wuauserv
    At a command prompt run wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

After a few minutes the client appears in the unassigned group and I add it
back to its computer group and check the log again and get the same result.
    Error: Download failed 0x80244019

I would like to merge the old data from c:\wsus\wsuscontent to
e:\wsus\wsuscontent if that's possible...or freshen the client so I will
download the updates from the current source.

    Any help is appreciated,

  2. Dear Dave,
I think the clients are still directing to the old location because the
Database is still directing to this location.
How did you move from the Old Drive to the New one?

    Thank you.

    Thanks for your response...
I performed the recover action discussed in WSUS SP1 readme:
    "retry upgrading to SP1...
    2. Restore the backup database on the WSUS computer using the following:

To retry upgrading to WSUS SP1
Determine the location of the backup database by reviewing the contents of
the WSUSSetup_%timestamp%.log file. This file is located in the following

    %programfiles%\Update Services\LogFiles

Restore the backup database on the WSUS computer using the following:

    osql.exe -S <DatabaseInstance> -E -Q "USE master ALTER DATABASE SUSDB SET

Remember to replace <DatabaseInstance> and <PathToDatabaseBackup> with
    values from your installation.

For <DatabaseInstance> use the value from the following registry key:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup\SqlServerName

For <PathToDatabaseBackup> use the value you identified in step 1

Uninstall WSUS, but keep the WSUS database, log files, and update files when
you are prompted to remove them. (Ensure that all options in Remove Microsoft
Windows Server Update Services are unchecked.)

Reinstall WSUS RTM (the original version not WSUS with SP1). Use the
existing database when you are prompted to do this. This will return your
WSUS system to a consistent state.

    Install WSUS SP1.

Note You cannot use the backed up database from step 1 above directly in
a clean install of WSUS SP1. The database schema has changed so this database
will not be compatible without upgrading to WSUS with SP1.

I performed the above steps and received a update successful msg. I started
noticing the error I described originally soon after.
I the meantime I ran a robocopy on the original c:\wsus\wsuscontent folder
to the new e:\wsus\wsuscontent and it seems to solved many errors. I still
find a few PC's that can't find the file in the new location.

I am considering running the hotfix KB898708, and KB927891 to solve some
other problems I am having. (error: Agent failed
    Thanks again...DP

  4. Run 'wsusutil movecontent' with the -skipcopy option to reinitialize the
database to the correct content store location.
