I need to upgrade a Server runing windows server 2003 sp2 to R2 sp2 to take
advantages of the DFS feature. This server is currently one of our Domain
Controllers out in one of our Remote offices and need to have the DFS feature
that works with R2 sp2. What is the steps to upgrading it to R2 sp2.

  2. Hello Daniel,

Insert the second R2 disk in the server and start setup2.exe or wait for
autostarting the install. Insert the R2 key and wait until it is ready. Can
be that it errors with version you will install is older or similar, then
you have to uninstall SP2 before and reinstall SP2 after R2 install.

    Best regards

  3. If its a DC, you will also have to prepare the the forest to receive the new
changes made on the schema that comes with R2 version.

Running this: "D:\CMPNENTS\R2\ADPREP>adprep /forestprep" (drive D: is your
CD drive where you have the R2 CD)

You have to run this cmd on the Schema Master DC of your forest (by default
is the first DC that was promoted). And if you have several domains on your
forest you will have to run also "adprep /domainprep"

    Hope it helps
