Use one Diff Disk as parent of multiple other Diff Disks?

    Given the follwing virtual harddrives:

    1) Base.VHD
    2) DeltaA.VHD - (Diff disk with Base.VHD as the parent)

    I want to create:
    3) DetaA1.VHD - (Diff disk with DeltaA.VHD as the parent)
    4) DeltaA2.VHD - (Diff disk with DetailA.VHD as the parent)

So I created Base.VHD and DeltaA.VHD and made both file read only.

Then when I tried to create DetaA1.VHD it told me that DeltaA.VHD had been
modified without using the Differencing disk and that since the file was
read only it could not be used as a parent....

    What am I doing wrong?

Is my desired configuration (two diff disks both use the same parent file
which is itself a diff disk) a legal configuration?

    Thanks in advance,

The moment you change the parent vhd, the child becomes an orphan.
So, instead of creating a chain like relation where a child becomes parent to another child,
always use the same parent for multiple children.
i.e., multiple differencing disks based on a single base vhd.
