    I'm trying to simulate our enviorment and seeing I really can't export and
    import the usernames from my current domain to my test domain. Does anyone
    know of a freeware utility that I can generate usernames. I don't need to
    generate passwords. I then want to place them into the different groups
    like I have in the production enviornment so that I can work on my migration
    plan.

    Thanks

    Hi Greg,

    Thank you for posting!

    I am not sure what kind of domain environment you are using. If it is
    Windows 2000 based or Windows 2003 based domain, I believe Active Directory
    Migration Tool (ADMT) can help you to do this.

    For additional informaiton about how to use ADMT v2, please visit the below
    article in Microsoft knowledge base:

    I have found my answer through scripting. I found some script on the net
    and have modified it for what I need. I'm placing the script here for
    anybody who wants to create fake users in a test enviornment

    On Error Resume Next
    strUser="User"
    Set oDomain = GetObject("WinNT://yourdomainname")
    For i=1 To 100
    strusername=struser & i
    Set oUser = oDomain.Create ("user", strusername)
    If (err.number = 0) Then 'If not 0 then user ID already exists
    oUser.SetInfo
    oUser.SetPassword "some password"
    oUser.SetInfo
    End If
    Next
    MsgBox ("100 Users Created")

    Thanks again

  5. Hi Greg,

    Why not use your actual user names in the test lab? The NT 4 reskit utility
    'addusers' can export / import them all into the SAM database of the test
    DC. All passwords will be blank.
