Using CLUSTER from the Command Line

Discussion in 'Clustering' started by David Pendleton, Feb 1, 2005.

  1. I am able to take a group offline using the CLUSTER command, however I am
unable to bring it back up using the same.

    The following error is returned:

System error 1722 has occurred (0x000006ba).
    The RPC server is unavailable.

The Cluster Administrator works just fine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks all.

  2. Hi David,

This error is not Cluster specific, it is an OS specific error mentioned in
    the following article:

224370 Troubleshooting "RPC Server is Unavailable" in Windows
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=224370

Like mentioned in the following article, there's a lot of reasons why this
error can occur. It could be as simple as the syntax from the command line
    being incorrect.

258518 RPC Unavailable Error Appears When You Try to Access a Cluster Server

If the group that you're taking down from the command line contains the
cluster network name I think you would get this error.

  4. To bring the group down:

    C:\>CLUSTER QASQL01 GROUP "SQL Group 1" /OFFLINE

Bringing resource group 'SQL Group 1' offline...

    Group Node Status
    -------------------- --------------- ------
    SQL Group 1 NT124XXX Offline

To bring the group back up:

    C:\>CLUSTER QASQL01 GROUP "SQL Group 1" /ONLINE

System error 1722 has occurred (0x000006ba).
    The RPC server is unavailable.

The Cluster Administrator does not exhibit this behavior. The group, SQL
Group 1, does not contain the cluster name resource. I have IP connectivity
    to the machine in question...

    What else?

  7. David,

Are you typing this command using the Administrative Add-on Tools on a
Windows XP SP2 Workstation? If so, do you experience the same behavior from
the actual console of the Cluster?
