Using Hidden Shares in DFS

Discussion in 'DNS Server' started by Doug Sullivan, Apr 2, 2004.

  1. Hi,

I wish to create a DFS link to a hidden share (which is
no problem) but I want the path to remain hidden in the
DFS tree. For example, I wish to create a folder to store
all my administrative images for office applications.
Users will need access to this directory for deployments
and repairs, however I do not want them to be able to
find the directory and install software on thier own. I
want to use GPO to deploy the software from a hidden DFS
share Domain\source$ however, even though the share is a
hidden share on the file server, once in the dfs tree it
becomes visible to everyone with read access.

    Any ideas on this?
    Thanks,
    Doug
