Hi All, I have recently needed to rebuild an SBS 2003 SP1 server and have
been unable as yet to restore the vacation calendar data which part of the
'companyweb' intranet site. Does anyone know where the data for the vacation
calendar is located and are there any particular procedures to follow to make
    it available again ?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Hello Andy,

Thank you for posting in the SBS newsgroup.

I am sorry for the delayed response due to the weekend. Please understand
that the newsgroups are staffed weekdays by Microsoft Support professionals
to answer your systems and applications questions. Your understanding is
    greatly appreciated!

According to your description, I understand that you would like to restore
the vacation calendar data for the 'Companyweb' web site. If I have
misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

If you have the following Windows SharePoint Services database and log
backup files, you can refer to the following KB article to restore the
    companyweb data:

    - STS_Config.mdf
    - STS_Config_log.ldf
    - STS_Servername_1.mdf
    - STS_Servername_1_log.ldf

827701 How to perform a disaster recovery operation of SharePoint Services
    Companyweb and SharePoint Services Databases

Note: Based on my research, we cannot simply restore the vacation calendar
data, since this database integrates other content databases.

I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Nathan, I have tried this twice now - the first time was via a terminal
services session which didn't resolve the issue but as I know that sometimes
this kind of thing won't work via ts I visited the client site and tried it
there. Unfortunately I got the same result. Do you know if this is a 'known'
problem post SBS SP1 installation ? I have experienced a number of problems
with ISA server, VPNs (in fact I have another client whose VPN clients are
dropping out after about 20 minutes after SBS SP1 installation and can't seem
to resolve that one either!) etc. Any further ideas would be greatly
    appreciated !

    Rgds,

    Andy

  6. Hi Andy,

    Thank you for your update.

As you mentioned, you cannot restore the vacation calendar data for the
'Companyweb' web site from the backup data. Based on my research, there is
no any known issue about this problem. Thanks for understanding.

To restore the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 SharePoint Services
databases on a new server as part of a disaster recovery operation, the new
server must have the same domain name as the original server where the
backup of the database and the backup of the log files were performed. The
required database and logs files are as follows:
    - STS_Config.mdf
    - STS_Config_log.ldf
    - STS_Servername_1.mdf
    - STS_Servername_1_log.ldf
Before you can start to restore the SharePoint Services databases, all the
    following criteria must be met:
    - Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 with the intranet component is
    installed.
    - The SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site must be working with a new,
    unmodified database.
    - The SharePoint Services Companyweb Web site must be accessible
    (http://companyweb).

Then refer to the following KB article 827701 to perform a disaster
    recovery operation of SharePoint Services:

827701 How to perform a disaster recovery operation of SharePoint Services
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=827701

Additionally, if the Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Desktop
Engine (also known as MSDE 2000) have been reinstalled on the SBS Server,
you may refer to the following KB article:

829113 How to restore a Windows SharePoint Services CompanyWeb database
    after
    http://support.microsoft.com/?id=829113

I appreciate your time and cooperation. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Nathan,

I'll give this a go but I think it's looking like I'll just have to re-input
the data for the client. Do you know what the best way to check for this
problem before hand would be, by any chance ? and do you know what the best
way to back up the data in a way that it can be restored easily is ?

    Thanks again for your help,

    Rgds,

    Andy
