I tried posting the issue below on the settop issue submission form and the damn form produced an unhandled exception that I then sent to the error reporting server at microsoft.

Anyways, that said here is my issue

I navigate through the set-top box set up. I press '0' as directed, media os says it recognizes the set top box remote. I then proceed to the change channel screen from the media pc remote, nothing happens. I've tried changing the channel change type either from no i do not need to select ok or enter to yes I do, there is no difference. I have then further tried to allow media center to learn the set top box remote, detection seems just sit there, but does not hang. Gateway FMC-901 model straight out of the box. Gateway support sucks. Just give me the source code and I will step debug this or just help please, this is very frustrating. Don't make me go to a tivo linux solution

    regards

Go through the setup again, and answer NO when asked if you have
a remote control for your STB. You will then be able to select
your STB and remote code set from a list.

    Bob, thanks I will give it a whirl tonight. If however that set top box is not in the list of available, what are my options. Just trying to be proactive, is there an SDK for the infra red detection api, etc;

I let you know the outcome either way

    thanks agai

Make sure that the IR emitter mouse is properly connected to
your PC, and that the emitter is positioned directly in front of
the IR receiver of your STB.

The fact that MCE recognized your STB remote, but you could not
change channels suggests a possible problem with the IR emitter
    wiring or placement.

What is is the model # of your Hughes STB? Perhaps someone else
with the same one will be able to offer some other suggestions.

options for the hughes set top box remote these codes were:
tech support, they have no idea what these codes sets are. Does
anymore at Microsoft know? I presume so since you guys coded the
api set and entered thse control code sets? What does S1142, etc
really mean? How do these translate to something the hughes
support team can help with? What is my next step to resolving
    this 1100 dollar issue?
