Hello all I have one weird issue with Windows 2003 Server. Computer just doesn't shut down, When you press Start, Shutdown or restart or logoff, it doesn't do anything, only Even Error gets logged, like the following: --------------------------------------------------- Date: 10/09/2004 Source: USER32 Category: None Type: Warning The attempt by user Server\administrator to restart/shutdown computer Server failed For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. --------------------------------------------------- I have tried finding an answer, got a Microsoft Engineer to have a look at it with no luck, he said it has to be some kind of external third party program. But i know i have not installed any new drivers or programs at all recently and it was working just days ago. Has anyone ever come accross this?? Thanks so much!
Do you use Terminal Services, if so do you connect to the Console session? Apparently a bug which having once connected to the console, you can no longer shutdown/reboot the machine. Workaround not to connect to console session or to reconnect to console session before shutting down/rebooting.... (by console I mean "mstsc /v:server /console")
Thanks for your help Yes, i do have terminal services but workaround doesn't work. This problems stays regardless whether Terminal service is enabled or not on this server.
I would try shutting down one service at a time and then attempt a shut down. You may be able to isolate the problem that way.
