I upgraded to Vista from XP, and was immediately not able to play my home
videos. Most are either .avi or .mov. Flash player won't play as well when
    played through a web page.

I've installed the Divx codecs but still nothing.

    What's the specific error(s)... ?
    What player(s) are you using?
What video card does this system have? Is there a driver update
    available... ?

I'm getting a buffer overrun, as well as non specific shutdowns... Program
    quits responding.

I use WMP as well as quicktime, but mainly play the movies through Picassa.
I'm using a NVIDIA 7600 GT card and just installed the latest driver update
    for Vista.

What's bothering me is that all these videos played on the PC prior to my
    clean install of Vista.
