Virtual Machine Additions crashes Virtual PC

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by David Trimboli, May 27, 2005.

  1. I'm running Virtual PC 2004 with SP1 on Windows XP Professional with
SP2. Whenever Virtual Machine Additions is installed on a virtual
machine (I've tried Windows XP Professional with SP2 and Windows 2000
Professional with SP4), the virtual machine will crash at seemingly
random times—always when I'm doing something, never when the virtual
    machine is idling.

When I uninstall Virtual Machine Additions, the problem goes away and
    the virtual machine works perfectly.

I believe I've seen this behavior on more than one computer installed
    with Virtual PC.

I really want the Virtual Machine Additions! Does anybody have any
    experience with this problem?

This happened to me repeatedly on one pc but not my other. The problem pc
uses an ECS K7VTA3 version 8.0 motherboard. Can't even INSTALL Win98SE on the
    ECS machine.

  3. At least it's not just me then—misery loves company. I'm using a Dell
Optiplex GX280, with whatever motherboard it came with. Drat, I was
hoping it wasn't a hardware limitation.
