After a fresh installation of Vista Home Premium, my pc freezes randomly. If
i decide to wait it out it magically unfreezes but this is a constant habit.
It leaves the pc clock frozen at the time of the freeze. Suprisingly it lets
me play full screen games but nothing else. Reinstalled multiple times,
downloaded all updates with no change. Perhaps my motherboard isnt
compatible? or my graphics card is just dumb? :S any help would be much
    appreciated.

    Foxconn RC4107MA-RS2 Motherboard
    Intel 3.4ghz Dual Core Processor
    Nvidia 7600GT Graphics Card (256mb)
    1gb RAM

  2. Goto www.foxconnchannel.com and download all teh latest drivers and re-apply
all, restart and see if this helps.

You might check in Task Manager to see if one of your cores is spiking to
100% while the other has spare capacity. Make sure to change view to show
both cores and if so, you may be able to change the affinity for some apps
to compensate. Vista has this problem on my machine with many apps running
where XP did a better job of allocating.

Foxconn doesnt really have an updated bios for my motherboard, it has all
sorts of different things i can flash it for but none make any sense to me..
nothing along the lines of a clear useful bios update anyway

I downloaded the "multi meter" gadget for my sidebar, it shows little core
percentage use each and about 50% ram use....

Use what you want, but in task manager I show spikes to 100% that never show
    up on Gadgets.

I have this exact problem with the same foxconn motherboar
(rc4107ma-rs2h), I got a free vista upgrade from PC world but afte
installing it my pc would freeze and then come back to life when i
felt like it! the time froze aswell which was a nightmare keep resetin
it! In the end I went out and bought a new vista certified graphics car
(as i had a feeling the onboard one was causing it) but it never helpe
    at all
I dont think its anything to do with cpu usage as I use power hungr
music editing tools for very long periods of time and would "sometimes
manage to get through a few hours without it freezing but then othe
times doing something as simple and easy as opening an empty folder o
scrolling down a page it would freeze for a good 5-10 mins. In the en
I put XP back on and wont try putting vista on again until the servic
    pack next month aparently
I have a feeling its got to be something to do with the motherboard

I have exactly the same problem. After change of the HDD and clean
install of Vista and upgrade to SP1, the system randomly freezes for
about 5 minutes, even the clock freezes. Nothing in event log.
When I reinstall the old HDD also Vista sp1 but upgrade on existing XP
installation, everything works no freezes... so hardware should be
    fine.
    What could be a solution?

I had issues with the intel chipset drivers causing very similar symptoms -
all solved by a driver update so make sure you have the latest

How can I check which chip driver set is currently installed?

  13. You DON'T even know if you NEED Intel chipset drivers!! You may have
    a non-intel board.

You are in over your head. Take your machine to a competent tech.

  15. Maybe if you provide more info about your system you'd get more help.

My crystal ball needs polishing so it's not working too well today.

    Hi,
The problem seems to be solved although I am not sure which measure had
    the effect.
    I've changed the PSU to a 650W (before 350W)
    Installed new memory 4GB
Created a seperate partition for the pagefile, size 6GB.

    Specs of my system :
    vista sp1
PB imedia with intel D925 processor
    Gigabyte motherboard
    WD green caviar HD 500G
    memory Buffalo 4G DDR2 667 Mhz
    Nvidia Geforce 8500GT

Only problem I have now is that the sleep mode doesn't work properly,
works fine with only 2Gb (I opened a new thread for that) Hibernation
works fine, so I am almost done.

Hopefully this helps others to find a solution.
