Vista Language Pack - Can't Uninstall - therefore can't install VistaSP1

Discussion in 'Windows Vista Installation' started by grant.jenkins, Mar 15, 2008.

  1. Hi,

My computer ran the language pack updates automatically, but my
computer was shut down during the process. I now have a strange
language installed, but can't uninstall it.

I can see it in the list of languages, but when I go to uninstall it
    only english is displayed.

I have put a couple of screenshots at:
    http://online.com.auckland.ac.nz/uniapps/Vista/LanguagePacks/Languages.gif
    http://online.com.auckland.ac.nz/uniapps/Vista/LanguagePacks/LanguagesRemove.gif

    I only want English installed.

This is preventing me from installing the Vista SP1 which is a huge
    problem.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

    Grant.

If you are still having trouble removing the language packs, try disabling UAC, disable system restore, stop the windows update service, delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder, reboot, and then do this:
    GOTO blogs.msdn.com/andrekl/archive/2008/09/29/how-to-overcome-error-0x80070490-when-installing-updates-in-windows-vista-server-2008.aspx

Then run lpksetup and remove each language pack one at a time. It worked for me!
