    Hi,

I am in the process of setting up my wife's new PC which is running Live
mail on Windows 8, her old PC has Outlook express running on Windows Vista,
I have managed to do everything else on transferring the information I need
from one machine to the other but am stuck on getting her mail messages
    across.

Has anyone out there done this and if so how?

    Many thanks

    Graham

Vista doesn't provide Outlook Express (OE)....nor does OE port to Vista.

Are you sure you are not using XP ?
If using Vista, the MSFT provided email client is Windows Mail. Windows Mail stores email messages as *.eml files which are
compatible and readable by Windows Live Mail (WLM).

There are a few ways to accomplish the task.

    1. Install WLM on the old pc, using WLM's export feature export the messages to a blank folder on a external device (thumb drive,
hard drive, etc. - note do not use a cd/dvd). Once done, use WLM (on Win8) to import the messages into WLM. Once done ***copy (not
move)*** the messages from the Storage folders to the appropriate folder in the email account.

    2. Drag and drop the messages to a blank folder on external media (no cd/dvd), then drag the messages into the Storage folders in
WLM (on Win8). Once done ***copy (not move)*** the messages from the Storage folders to the appropriate folder in the email
    account.

    3. Copy the entire Windows Mail message store on the Vista pc to external media (no cd/dvd), then use WLM's import function to
import from that media into WLM's Storage folders. Once done ***copy (not move)*** the messages from the Storage folders to the
appropriate folder in the email account.

Finally when all messages are verified as being in the correct email account folder/subfolders you can leave the messages in the
Storage folders for archival purposes, export them again using WLM's selective export option for archival purposes or delete them.

Caution: When importing or dragging a large volume of message into WLM do not interrupt the process...its best to walk away until
certain all activity (import, index/reindexing WLM primary and backup databases) is complete.
