It's sad to conclude but Vista RC1 aka RTM is what Beta 1 should have been
and what Vista RTM should be you aren't ever going to see until Blackcomb
    Vienna if then:

It's just terminology... when MS say 'RC' they mean 'Beta' (google are
the opposite, labelling perfectly functioning code 'Beta' simply because
it might have a couple of bugs in it. Companies are wierd like that..
they don't use labels in the same way that engineers do).

OTOH if the worst that people can say is the drivers suck then it's in a
better shape than XP was at release (which didn't even *have* drivers
for lots of major devices at release). You can update drivers.. no big
deal. If you want to be an early adopter for vista then you have to
cope with the early adopter teething troubles.

Of course the laptop vendors are the worst culprits on the driver front.
They all happily ship 64bit laptops 'ready for 64bit windows' then get
all shirty when you ask them where the 64bit drivers are (I could name
names but it's be..well.. all of them as far as I can see...)

Tony driver wise--your points are well taken and most of us who have Beta
tested for a while appreciate that. But I was extending that to all the
    components and features.

RC1 is NOT RTM (release to manufacturers)!! Manufacturers may NOT use
standard Windows licenses to distribute RC1. "Go-live" licenses can be had
for production use but only for internal use, not for sale.

Release candidates are gamma releases; they precede delta (gold) releases.
Only the delta / gold releases are "aka RTM".

    Absolutely FALSE.
Any conclusions you attempt to make by that FALSE statement are bound to be
    equally FALSE.
